How many mistakes can a person make in her first blog?

Before I post my next board related entry, I feel compelled to thank my colleagues who graciously offered comments/suggestions/criticisms via e-mail instead of posting them on the blog. From the title of the post to my e-mail announcements, it was one screw up after another. On some e-mails, I had the wrong address for the blog site, on others I left out a subject explanation and on still others I forgot to sign my name. Why would anyone want to read a post from someone who can't quite get it right? One person in my address book, immediately fired back and asked who I was and how I got her e-mail address. How do I know? It was in my address book so I must have corresponded with her about something at some point. I assured her I would remove her name. I also apologize to those who may be in my address book more than once, if they received more than one e-mail.
Perhaps my most egregious error was the use of the word "maverick" which I was reminded means "an unorthodox or independent-minded person. A person who refuses to conform to a particular party or group." My teacher on the learning curve on this one reminded me that - " Any board that does not have at least one maverick board member is not being stretched and is limiting itself. Sending this email would be a good example of a maverick action." So....a better title might have been "disruptive board members" and the lesson learned - be sure to double check meanings and common usage. Synonym for disruptive - troublesome or unsettling. Yes, that's closer to what I was writing about.
Who is it that says, if you knew better, you'd do better? Well, now I know better, at least on some of this and will hopefully do better. And special thanks to old friends and colleagues who are living in other parts of the country and wrote to thank me for including them in. You made my day!
Until next time,
Pat

First, Welcome to Blogging 101, there are many out there who will always take you to the woodshed on your first post, for failure to follow their proper procedures.
Fear not, just be yourself and don't worry if you step on a few toes it's part of the game.
Keep the blogs coming, and don't let a few start-up errors, or Mavericks stop you !

Pat, Congrats on your foray into blogging. I think it's a great idea and look forward to the comments, ideas, questions and answers. I serve on several area not for profit boards and am usually the maverick/questioner/trouble maker.
What advice do you have for us? How do we decide if our questions are appropriate, if we have legitimate concerns or if we are just micro managing the agency? Thanks, K.
